Mark speaks, writes, and facilitates strategic off-sites to help leaders re-ignite their teams.

Mark brings almost three decades of experience, first in IT and operations, followed by founding and managing a software company, and later in keynote speaking and consulting. For the past ten years, he has worked to help leaders create healthier, more cohesive and effective teams. Mark is the author of The Hippo Solution: Eliminate Territorial Thinking and Unleash the Power of Teams. He trained under industry legends, including Patrick Lencioni – author of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, achieved a number of certifications, and personally led non-profit boards. Mark’s favorite team is his wife and four kids. His second favorite team is the high school girls’ basketball team whom he coaches.

Mark’s career experience spans multiple industries including technology, healthcare, government, manufacturing, engineering, financial services, and retail. Mark has shared his insights with the teams of organizations such as Nissan, Mars, State of Tennessee government, Ohio State University, HIMSS, HCA, Vanderbilt, and the US Army.

MY HIGHLIGHTS

My first experience with teams was the mediocre Green Bay Packers I watched as a kid.

From the sixth grade on, I embraced participating in school music and sports teams!

My love for technology began in junior, originally learning it from my Father and programming my first Commodore 64 game.

When I was 15, my Father passed away unexpectedly. I was forced to lead my younger sister and brother, whether I was ready for it or not.

In college, my team experience continued by joining a missions trip team to Ukraine, of all places.

After college, I began career #1 in information technology, software development, testing, and project management.

After a rewarding stint in IT with a variety of team experiences, but after getting laid off three times in the aftermath of the dot com bubble, I started career #2 and did what my Father always wanted to do: my own software company. We worked as a team to improve the operations of teams in several hundred organizations.

Along the way, I began my coaching “career”: eventually leading to coaching a high school girls basketball team, one of my passions.

Eventually, my work managing the software company and working in a variety of organizations and industries led to a realization: very few teams were working smoothly and organizational levels were disconnected. I decided to start career #3 and work to improve the cohesiveness of teams at all levels of organizations.

I published my first book, focused on eliminating the territorial thinking plaguing organizations, and unleash the power of their teams!

Here I am, still on the journey, now focused on inspiring leaders to re-ignite their teams!
